You don’t need to have all the answers

But with guidance and support, you can learn how to ask the right questions.

Let’s work together to start important conversations about disability and build an inclusive community that empowers your people to work and grow together.

Diversity addresses this mix; inclusion makes the mix matter.

Sarah Cronk disability inclusion speaker

Speaking topics:

  • The disability population is America’s largest and most diverse minority; yet, it’s the population most of us know the least about. In fact, while 90% of organizations claim to prioritize diversity, only 4% consider disability in their efforts. This interactive seminar serves as a “Disability 101” for companies looking to better understand the disability population and disability dynamics in the workplace, with the goal of developing a more inclusive and accessible culture.

Attendees will leave with a stronger understanding of disability history, rights, appropriate language, and inclusion best practices.

  • Did you know it’s legal to pay subminimum wage to people with disabilities, resulting in some workers earning less than $1 per hour? Did you know 98% of websites fail to meet contemporary standards for online accessibility? Have you ever heard someone tell a disabled person, “I don’t think of you as being disabled” or " I think you're an inspiration” ?

Ableism – discrimination and prejudice against people with disabilities – takes many forms, but most Americans have limited awareness of the ways ableism shapes our workplaces, social norms, and societies at large.

Designed to serve as a follow-up to “Disability Inclusion in the Workplace,” this session goes beyond the basics to help employees develop a stronger understanding of the complex challenges faced by the disabled population. Attendees will leave with greater awareness of individual and systemic ableism, along with tangible action steps to create a more equitable work environment.

  • An October 2019 survey by iProspect found that only 15% of marketers included positive portrayals of people with disabilities in recent campaigns. With more than 20% of the American population identifying as having a disability, marketers are missing a large (and influential) audience.

Using examples from companies like Microsoft, Nike, Degree, and Apple, I help attendees understand what makes for an authentic and inclusive campaign. Attendees will also learn how to avoid common pitfalls, harmful tropes, and accessibility blunders.

The Secret to Sparking Change.

How does a fifteen-year-old from Bettendorf, IA start a successful national nonprofit? In my TED talk, I debunk three common myths about my success and the one secret that changed everything.

  • “It should be me who thanks YOU!  I learned a few new things (who said you can't teach an old dog?), and the students greatly appreciated your perspective and insight.  They found you very approachable and not 'lecturing,' which is good.  They also liked the examples you shared. You really helped their understanding.”
